Brussels sprouts make for a tasty side dish! I typically make these for Christmas dinner, or as a side dish when I make vegan burgers. This recipe is pretty easy to make. You can experiment with different seasonings too.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Servings: 3-4
What You'll Need
1 12oz bag of brussels sprouts (whole or sliced)
2 tablespoons of olive oil
1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar
1 tablespoon of maple syrup (or agave)
2 teaspoons of garlic powder
1 teaspoon of sea salt
pepper to taste
Cooking Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Rinse your brussels sprouts. If you purchased the uncut version, cut off the stems (white part at the bottom), peel the first layer, and slice the brussels sprouts in half. If you purchased the sliced version, you may still need to remove the stems.
Place your brussels sprouts in a medium-sized bowl and toss with olive oil, garlic powder, sea salt, and pepper.
Combine maple syrup and balsamic vinegar in a small bowl. Set aside.
Cook seasoned brussels sprouts for 15-20 minutes. You want them to be soft enough to put a fork through easily, and not burnt.
Once the brussels are cooked, place them back into the medium-sized bowl and drizzle the balsamic vinegar and maple syrup on top. Stir to make sure the brussels are evenly coated with balsamic mixture.
Enjoy! Best when served hot.
You can store the brussels sprouts in an airtight container for 3 days.
Tips!
Less is more with balsamic vinegar. Add in the vinegar slowly, making sure you taste along the way. You can always add in more later.
You can opt to sauté the brussels sprouts in a skilled instead of using the oven. If you decide to saute them, just make sure your heat is not too high and add in your balsamic and maple syrup at the end once the brussels are cooked.
If you are not a fan of balsamic vinegar, you can just toss the brussels with salt and pepper!
