Quick & Easy Eats: French Toast

French toast is one of my favorite foods to make for breakfast or brunch. This recipe is easy to make and you can top it with any of your favorite fruits!

vegan french toast

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Servings: 3 to 4

What You'll Need

  • Bread of your choice

  • 1 1/2 cups of non-dairy milk

  • 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed

  • 6 tablespoons of water

  • 1-2 tablespoons of cinnamon

  • 1 tsp of nutmeg

  • 1 tsp of ground cloves

  • Fruit of your choice (I use fresh strawberries)

  • 1/4 cup of powdered sugar

  • 1 tablespoon of neutral oil or vegan butter

Cooking Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Either lightly grease or put parchment paper on a cookie sheet. Set aside.

  2. Make your flax egg by combining the flaxseed and water. Let thicken for 5 minutes.

  3. Depending on the bread you choose, you can either cut larger slices or smaller "sticks" size slices.

  4. Combine milk, flaxseed, and spices in a medium-sized mixing bowl.

  5. On medium heat, add oil, or vegan butter, to a skillet and cook your french toast until golden brown (about 2 minutes on each side).

  6. After the toast is cooked, place it in the oven for 5-10 minutes until the bread is crispy (but not burnt). Top with fresh fruit and powdered sugar.

  7. Best when served hot!

Tips!

  1. I use a sifter to add the powdered sugar and create a snowy effect.

  2. You can opt to broil the toast instead of just heating it up in the oven but make sure you watch it carefully. It should not take more than a minute to become crispy.

  3. I find that multigrain bread, a white bread, or challah, work really well for french toast.
